There are so many lasts in life. But to every last, a first will soon follow. This Christmas marks the end of a decade, the end of an era + the end of one tradition, and the beginning of a new family. This Christmas will be our last as an unmarried couple. Next Christmas will be our first as newly weds. (only 123 more days to go! but who is counting?) Next Christmas will be our first giant smorgasbord of conglomerating/collaborating/conflicting traditions.

This will be one last Christmas of staying up half the night snuggled with my sister. Of course it will never ever be the last of shaking gifts to see if they sound like there is popcorn inside. My dear, that one will live on forever. One last Christmas before we begin creating our own Holiday traditions. For which I am extremely excited for. Our halls our decked. And we are eager to celebrate not only the birth of Christ, but our one year engagement “anniversary” (how many people could say/do that?)

espresso yourself

Any of you that have know me for a mere ten minutes, followed my blog, or passed me in the hall + could smell the espresso wafting from my pores.

Ever since our first date, coffee has been a central aspect in our lives. Mine as a barista + connoisseur and Sawyer’s as a caffeine addict. Late night study sessions over a latte. Sunday morning brunch with a cappuccino. Coffee has been a frothing point in our relationship + some of the most deep amazing, incredible conversations have brewed over these steaming cups.

So, naturally, in our wedding planning, we spent many dates brain storming with a cup by our sides. Who ever would have thought that we would incorporate it into our reception? Yeah, yeah, you saw it from a mile away.

I saw this today while browsing the knot.com – my favorite website I saw this… Yup, most definitely need to incorporate this into our centerpieces!!!

Oh, and one of my super sweet bridesmaids – Amy – totally made me cackle with her pitch on favors!

Well, its that time folks! The time every engaged couple waits eagerly for – cake tasting! We have gone through hundreds of hundreds of cake photos, and searching vendors, we have been overwhelmed. After much deliberation we have decided that we will be serving cupcakes! Everyone loves a cupcake!

With infinite choices + not wanting to spend the next decade tasting every flavor on the planet – I am turning to you, my friends. Please lend me a hand + slam us with a few cake flavors that you have enjoyed (:

We recently got our engagement photos back from our absolutely amazing photographer, Stacy Young. And what can I say, I am head over heels amazed by them. Oh, she did such an incredible job, I can’t even imagine how fabulous the ones from our wedding day will turn out! I had to share these with you! If you ever need a photographer in the Salt Lake area, I completely recommend her, she is a total doll to work with. She has such an amazing talent for posing, angles + engaging the subjects.

I had the pleasure of photographing Kate and Sawyer on a beautiful fall day. Blue skies, bright colored leaves, and a warm light from the sun made this an awesome shoot, not to mention Kate and Sawyer are pretty phenomenal themselves.

These two are the sweetest! They have dated for 5 years and got engaged on Christmas day last year. How memorable & special is that?

I love how they love each other. It is so apparent in how they talk to one another and treat each other. Their love runs deep and you can see it in their faces.

Can’t wait for their wedding in April!

I have major bridal obsession going on right now… The other day I was amidst my weekly Target wandering, having no real purpose in a search I delved into the party isles. Boring – next isle. Lame – next isle. OMG. These beaut’s popped right out at me from the clearance rack. Oh, how gorgeous + perfectly matching our shade of green, are you, amazing emerald polka dot napkins… you must come home with me… my heart stopped short when they only had 5 packages… equaling 100 napkins… A bit short of what we would need for a cocktail hour of 175 guests… boo. double boo. I ran to the register, snarling to protect my loot, determined to find more, I picked up the latest bridal magazine and began the mad dash to every Target in town, to no avail. Maybe we’ll just have to use them for a shower/party instead of the hors d’oeuvres hour…

Saddened, I grabbed an amazing, amazing I tell you – raspberry passion tea lemonade {starbucks}, to lift my spirits + I began flipping through the pages, whilst sipping my tea. And I stumbled upon these uber cool paper straws… And well… I really want, nay, need them! Wouldn’t they be amazing garnishing a Manhattan? Not only are they super chic – they are on esty .com + purchases support indie markets!

As of late, I have become obsessed with theknot + oncewed, wedding websites. These websites have encouraged the creation of a “inspiration board”. And finally, the berage of photos from my “naughty” file have been given the chance to become of real use outside of my mac. These are just some of the ideas that we really enjoy + hope to be able to incorperate into our wedding. Stay tuned to see!

Wow. I can not believe I really haven’t posted since the 19th. I guess this just re-affirms my inconsistency that I referred to in this post. Life has been all over the place over the past two-and-a-half weeks + I am soooooo behind on pretty much everything. I recently started a new job as a CNA/Mental Health Associate at a youth residential treatment facility. I love it. I finished my training period as of this past friday + have now become a full fledged (or as my client’s say) “real staff.” They are a fun group, well, except when they want to physically harm you… then… well it’s a different story. Nine days ago all of the “trainees” were subjected to a day of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. And, man, our trainer sure gave us a run for our money by “giving us the closest to real experience” meaning, many of us walked away with bruised + a few with bloody noses. However, we all came back the next day, so I guess, we weren’t too emotionally scarred or traumatized.

Secondly, SAWYER GRADUATED!!! Can I hear a woot woot?! This Friday, Sawyer graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mass Communication + Computer Science! On Monday, that same sweet man will be starting as a full time employee at the company he has been interning at since August! I am sooooooo proud of him. (:

Wedding planning has literally, not happened since the last update due to the mass hysteria in our lives but will be jumping back on track over the next few days. We will keep you updated!

This week has been crazy with a capital “C”. We have feel in love with locations, we have been disappointed by locations, we have gathered more ideas for locations. We have worked on the budget break down. We have worked on the small detail breakdowns – from “to do” lists, to beginning guest lists, to every single question we could think of to grill a wedding planner. We have broken down dates of conflicts between family + peers. We have emotionally broken down.

This past week, we have looked into + at The Point @ Huntsman, Heritage Gardens, Red Butte Gardens, Thanksgiving Point,. + The Depot. Every place has their pros + cons – some completely outweighing the others + some very medial ones. We’ve analyzed dates, the pro’s and con’s of waiting further (kill me now) or sticking with our predetermined date (most likely). We’ve tracked down every family members academic calendar for the 2010-2011 school year… Part of me is ready to throw in the towel + say “city hall it is!” which I know I will regret forever. I know it. But man, is every couples wedding planning this emotionally draining?

In the middle of all of my stress Sawyer’s ever-so-sweet ocd accountant sister-in-law sent me the most amazing-est extreme ocd excel file that didn’t even compare to anything I had previously created. Man, E – sweets, you are a lifesaver + really should try to market that spreadsheet!

Seriously, this is the spreadsheet that makes dweebus ocd excel goddesses drool. It, honestly, puts every other spreadsheet in my life to shame. Yep, that amazing. It sure brightened my day/week/month/life to receive…

consistently inconsistent

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve blogged about the wedding. I have to face (and confess) it at some point – I am not a very consistent person, as a rule. I know I’m given to spurts of blogginess, but really, it shouldn’t surprise you when you see 3 blog posts in a day, or even when a month has gone by and I haven’t blogged a peep. Which is odd for me in some sense, because I am usually* (disclaimer) highly consistent in everything else in my life – I live on a schedule, a very scattered one albeit, but a structured schedule, the majority of the time doing the same thing, the same days, every week, month, moon cycle, year… etc, whatever. You get the point? My office is immaculate, everything has its place + if its moved, I can spot it from a mile away. My office is completely sprayed down with lysol when I come in for the morning + when I leave for the afternoon. I always do my laundry on Mondays, but somehow it never really makes its way to my closet, and ends up sitting in the basket until next Monday rolls around… and you all can guess where it goes then. My room tends to be a disaster zone relating something to that of the aftermath of Katrina or 9/11, well at least the 2 feet surrounding the end of my bed + my nightstand of course. I guess, OCD (or CDO – compulsive disorders of obsessions – for those who just cant stand the letters being out of order) just doesn’t mix well with ADD… or a busy life.

Do you relate? … or are you one of those consistent/disciplined/organized people? If so, kudos to you. I can’t relate to you, but kudos.

Ok, where was I? Oh, yeah… Wedding plans, before you so rudely sidetracked me ADD…Today, well I guess its yesterday now – Sawyer, my mum + I went to scope out one of our venue options. And needless to say, it left me a little discouraged. We asembled a list of the pro’s + con’s… The con’s (in my mind) seem to outweigh the pro’s of this location. *le sigh* But it is just so beautiful in some areas… where in others it feels a bit… dare I say, tacky?

After having some yummy (BOGO) jamba’s with my mum, I really started to re-analyze the situation… and well, I am still feeling a bit down in the dumps because the place just didn’t scream at me “THIS IS THE VENUE”… should it though? blah. We have a few more places still to look, but please be praying that God will speak a voice of peace + reason in this stressful time of planning. Part of me is aching to just accept the five grand from my dad + get hitched at city hall + making a mad dash to Mexico…
